APFTL CONDUCTS HEALTHY INTERNET WORKSHOP TO PROMOTE SAFE USE OF TECHNOLOGY


Today, many young Timorese have mobile phones that can access the internet. Through the increasing use of wireless internet, especially in big cities, mobile phone owners with smart internet can access the internet for free.

Many young Timorese use their mobile phones to access the internet wherever they go, and this increases the dangerous risks they will encounter online - from anywhere in the world - without adult attention.

All entities have a responsibility and obligation to promote and ensure safety for the safe use of technology.

To promote the safe use of technology, this year, APFTL and SEJD held healthy internet workshops in 12 municipalities and RAEOA.

Objective of the Healthy Internet Workshop: Young people already have the knowledge to avoid pornographic content, defamation and hoax, with Indicator: 859 young people from 12 municipalities and RAEOA, each municipality 66 people, know how to avoid, from pornographic, defamatory and hoax content.

In the second week of June, APFTL has conducted Healthy Internet Workshop in municipalities such as: Aileu, Ainaru Manatutu and Manufahi. The Healthy Internet Workshop activity was opened by His Excellency the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports, Mr. Abrão Nokosiku Saldanha through virtual with young people from Viqueque Municipality on May 28, 2021.

Participants who took part in this workshop are: Third Cycle Basic Education Students, Secondary Students, and Youth Groups in each municipality.

This workshop is divided into two sessions, the first session Promotes Healthy Internet, which will begin with the Healthy Internet Workshop, with the central theme ''Promote the Safe Use of Technology'', with its detailed sub-theme or theme: How young people do they have the capacity to resist online sexual abuse, hate speech, disinformation, fake new and hoax? Second Session Participants will be divided into two (2) groups, each group of 33 people, will practice, how to protect their privacy when using social media.

This workshop also marked the presence of local authorities in each municipality, territorial SEJD Focal Point, Youth Center. In the Opening Session, Local Authorities expressed their happiness and praise for the APFTL Initiative with the support of SEJD, to hold Healthy Internet workshops in the municipalities of Aileu, Ainaro, Manatutu and Manufahi, despite the COVID-19 pandemic situation affecting activities and schools are closed, so the authorities encourage students and youth to make good use of this opportunity, to learn and also share with young people who do not have the opportunity to take part in this activity.

After the workshop, APFTL also distributed Internet use guidelines to youth and parents. This activity is carried out because APFTL partners with the Secretariat of State for Youth and Sports (SEJD), through the National Directorate of Youth Creativity.
